About Stephen Bennett

Whether playing his great-grandfather's harp guitar, his 1930 National Steel or a standard 6-string, Stephen Bennett is a musician to hear. His playing has won awards and critical praise. In live performance and on record, his diverse musical influences and interests are joined with a lifelong love affair with the sound of guitar strings.

Transcriptions

If you would like to order the transcription for one of my compositions or arrangements, click on the desired title below.

I’ve made a change. Now as I add transcriptions, I will put them at the top of the list rather than the bottom. More titles are added all the time – so please check back. Transcriptions were created using Finale and will be sent to you as a PDF file attached to an email. You’ll get standard musical notation AND tab.

Upon receipt, simply download, print, and get to work learning the music! After you order, it may take a day or two before the transcription is emailed to you. When I can figure out how to make it so that you can download immediately, I will put that into effect!

These transcriptions take a lot of time to create. Their accuracy is probably something like 98%. Sometimes I miss a fingering here and there. My brain tends to glaze over when checking the tab, and so mistakes happen. Point such things out to me if you notice them. If I think it’s important, I’ll incorporate the change and send you an updated copy. And sometimes musical passages change slightly over time as I play them (over years and decades) and therefore can be at slight variance from the original recording. Personally, I don’t think this is a problem. I think if you can find some slight difference in how I play a phrase on a recording and how it’s presented in the transcription, that’s good! Good for you that you can find it! That means your ear is getting better – and that’s always a good thing, right?!

Thanks and have fun!

p.s. Please feel free to send me an email (sb@harpguitar.com) letting me know which tunes you’d like to see here next!

Actually, it was written for this particular guitar which was found in Atlanta in 1968 by a guy who was my boss back in 1980. It was sitting in an apartment when he moved in and although he didn’t play himself, he hung on to it – at least until I got my hands on it and talked him out of it!
