About Stephen Bennett

In live performance and on record, his diverse musical influences and interests are joined with a lifelong love affair with the sound of guitar strings.

I’ve taken my FB pages down here at the beginning of 2017,for a variety of reasons. I don’t find FB to be particularly helpful in promoting the music I make, for one. I loathe their advertising model, for another. I find it despicable how fake news flourishes there. As I write this, the 75th straight month of job creation under President Obama was just announced. (Not that anyone seems to remember, but the economy was shedding hundreds of thousands of jobs a month when he took office.) That we are about to go from that level of competence and class to Twittering Donald Trump and his band of flunkies and enablers disgusts, depresses and angers me. We’ve put a juvenile in charge and I just don’t get it. This is not America as I understand it. If I continue to have a FB page, I will be constantly tempted to post about the inanities I see, commentary that nobody particularly wants to read from me in the first place and that will generate all sorts of further inanities in the form of replies. None of it will be a very constructive use of my time.

And it’s not as if anyone who’s trying to get in touch with me will have a difficult time doing so without Facebook…
