About Stephen Bennett

Whether playing his great-grandfather's harp guitar, his 1930 National Steel or a standard 6-string, Stephen Bennett is a musician to hear. His playing has won awards and critical praise. In live performance and on record, his diverse musical influences and interests are joined with a lifelong love affair with the sound of guitar strings.

I’m truly honored – and humbled…

Greetings all who happen here ~

I’m writing just as the 10th Annual Harp Guitar Gathering has ended here in Texas. As usual, our event brought together players, builders, authorities and enthusiasts of the harp guitar for a weekend of music and camaraderie.

I was very, very surprised by the first presentation. It turned out to be not what was on the schedule. As it happened, the first presentation was the unveiling of a cd of music, two years in the making, that I had no inkling of whatsoever. It’s called The Water Is Wide: A Tribute to ——————————- well, me…

The cd was put together by my friend and co-conspirator in the Gathering, Gregg Miner.

I haven’t yet had the chance to listen to the whole thing or read the accompanying booklet (much less absorb that this has actually happened). A bunch of very talented folks have created some beautiful music and written some very nice words about me.

Truly I am honored by this incredible expression of love. And just as truly, I am humbled by it.

In time I will be in touch with everyone who contributed in any way. For now, a simple but heartfelt thank to you all!

Best wishes,
sb

  1. Congratulations, Stephen. Truly a tribute to a talented musician. Now in New Mexico, we truly miss attending your concerts in Williamsburg etc., but the tracks we have of yours are usually the first we cue up. Thank you for enriching our lives.

    Thanks George!

  2. Congratulation Stephen,

You are certainly an inspiration to many.

  3. You deserve this tribute. I was honored and thrilled when asked to play along with many others on the album’s finale. You truly have a good friend in Sir Gregg Miner.

    Congratulations Stephen,
I have had the privilege to hear you several years at Christmas time and my wife was asking me if you would be coming this year. I ordered the Tribute CD just now and look forward to seeing you when you will be in Williamsburg in April.
    Keep up the beautiful music!

Hi Stephen, I googled your name to see if you had any new Christmas CDs (your first two are staples in our home this time of year). When “Tribute to Stephen Bennett” came up, I feared the worst. So, so glad it’s this beautiful creation instead.

Like the above commenter, I’ve also moved away from Williamsburg. Have the fondest, fondest memories of your concerts. Take care, and all the best.

    Sincerely,

    A grateful listener
